Save a buck, kill a kid?

I am officially tired of China and their inability to monitor safe business practices. I am also done with companies who decide the "risk it" in the effort to save money. I find it interesting that decisions are made to save money, yet, somehow, the product price continues to rise...hmmm.

Either way, stop manufacturing in China until they get some standards and stop buying product from companies who defend the practice - tsktsk!

Are you in my brain again? I was thinking this exact thing today while driving somewhere.

We had to send back a Skarloey train (from the Thomas series) just last month or so because of lead.

Honestly, it is amazing that this is happening and the companies are just fine with it, or so they seem. I completely think we need to organize a boycott...it is nuts.

I was thinking that China does not care about the products they produce, but after executing a top food safety guy and a toy executive committing suicide perhaps they do care.

It's the save a buck thing. It is always the people with the $$$ making the decisions, not the person getting paid 5 cents an hour to make all that stuff.

The margins have to be amazing. In my line of work, we strive to have a 40% margin...pretty slim. Makes me insane when I think about how much money is being made on these toys, and contrary to reports, they are not "cheap".

I heard on a report that it costs about 35 cents to make a barbie doll in China. I don't know if that includes shipping, marketing and packaging though.
